the CIS marco polo bazaar. in list form

I spent the first two days of the last month of the year peddling my wares. For the first time in my crafting life, I sold items in a traditional manner. And by traditional, I mean actually meeting my customers during the sales process.  Something new for someone who have always relied on online transactions.

A few things:

1. Quantity – I was not able to sew a lot of merchandise for the bazaar, sadly. And the ones that sold out first were the ones that I thought to make a day before the event. Of course, I was under the impression that I made more than enough. But during the vendors’ briefing, I had a painful realization. “Golly, these are big-time bazaar vendors! They probably have warehouses full of merchandise!” I thought. I wasn’t wrong.

2. Display – The boyfriend and I stressed out about our display. It slipped my mind that the bazaar wasn’t a craft fair and that other vendors didn’t really care about being creative with their booths. In fact, only about a quarter of the vendors gave their display much thought. Not that I regret spending time thinking about the display since I reckon a decent presentation helped attract potential buyers.

wander into drea’s enchanted craftsy world

Today, we get to know another lovely and creative Pinoy crafter, Andrea Dela Cruz. Confession: I have always loved the name Andrea. Confession II: I think Andrea Dela Cruz is all sorts of adorable.

Name: Drea

What do you make?
Handpainted sparkly stickers and illustrations of this mythical creature I call a ‘merbird’–half-bird, half-fish. I’m also studying pottery, and I make ceramic nature-inspired pendants and various ceramic thingamajigs. I used to make fascinators and wire jewelry as well. I’m interested in trying out all the craft-related activitiesout there, to see if I love a particular activity/process. This is how I discovered that I am pleasantly challenged with calligraphy, and how I don’t have the patience and skills needed for knitting, heh.

  • I’m not sure if you’ve read me complain about the lack of large paper doilies in my city. If you haven’t, it’s a complaint I have made several times. But lo and behold – paper doilies in 8 and 12-inch diameters! Aren’t they gorgeous?
  • This reminds me that there are parts of my city that are completely foreign to me. Do you feel that way about your own city sometimes? Does it fill you with hopeful anxiety as it does me?
  • Styrofoam balls prettified by the boyfriend’s mom using beads, sequins, and pins. They make for wonderful Christmas decor.
  • Chino loves them.

blistered feet are happy feet

Well, no, that’s a lie. Blistered feet are blistered feet are blistered feet. And they hurt like a hell.

But it’s okay if you got blistered feet because you spent an afternoon in a happy place. Last Saturday, I went with the boyfriend and his family to Mountain View Nature Park. While we left the resort just before dusk and we didn’t get to enjoy the city lights, it was still a fun  afternoon spent climbing 400+ steps (thus, the blistered feet) to a rope course, swimming at the pool under friendly clouds, eating comfort food, and watching Last Resort. Yeah, I brought my netbook and watched the latest episode. I HEART Scott Speedman.

If you find yourself in my fine city, going to Mountain View is highly recommended. Weird animal and human-like statues aside, this place offers loads of fun for the whole family. Just, you know, wear comfy footwear.
