The Plan.

Fabric. You will be making a maxi dress so buy fabric accordingly. I stand 5′ tall (I know, I know, I am tiny) and I needed 2.5 meters of fabric with a 45-inch width.
Preparation and Cutting.

Sewing.

Don’t forget the banana. It’s an integral part of the plan.
Instructions for making the rosettes are HERE.

Wow! Funny, last week I was seriously tempted to ATTEMPT making my own long dress for my friend’s wedding, but then I have never made anything before so it’s a disastrous idea. Haha. Plus I’m supposed to use satin which I think is kinda tricky. Someday, someday. :P Congrats on the dress!

Oooh, thank you. I need to find the time to make a dress for myself, not just the kiddos around me.

This looks like something I can pull off…..clothing is not my strong suit but I might be able to do this…

Wow! That is such a pretty dress, I love it! At the moment I am obsessed with maxi skirts and maxi dresses, so as soon I saw your tutorial feature at Sewing Crafts I knew I had to come and take a peek. I am making a maxi dress at the moment and I needed some more inspiration :)
I will link up to your tutorial on my blog, I am posting about my favorite DIY tutorials and since I loved yours I would like to share (If you don’t mind) :)

I’m 5″1 1/2″ & can’t buy a maxi as I have to cut miles of the bottom which if it has a pattern would be cut off just interested to know which pattern you used to base it on or is it cout freehand

Thank you very much for sharing this great tutorial! Gonna try that soon! :)

Very cute and super simple! I’m not a bit fan of maxidresses but I might take this one on anyway.
Lei- satin is actually pretty easy to work with. What I’ve had the most trouble with are knits.

Exciting! I have the weekend off and I might just try this!! (That is of course if I can get my butt out of bed…)

You are amazing.

Thanks for the tutorial! I got you beat on the shortness by one inch, I’m 4’11″ and I absolutely love maxi dresses, but they are always 5-6 inches way too long!

Great tutorial! I’ll have to make one once the weather gets better here… :-/

Hey, I love the dress, just what I am looking for!
What material did you use? Was i cotton or jersey?
Aug 22, 2011 @ 21:02:47
Just made this dress – two hours flat including cutting and sewing – although I need to do the hem and attach the straps to the back once I give it to my friend who is receiving it. Looks fantastic and you did such an awesome job making the tutorial easy to follow! I used 100% cotton with no stretch and it was lightweight and it worked really well. I can definitely see myself making more of these for myself and others and also using other materials – satin and knit. Just loving it! Will blog about it once I gift it tomorrow and link to your tutorial. Thanks!!
