meet lorelai 3.0

Isn’t she a beaut?

Lorelai is named after Lorelai Gilmore. She was funny and she knew how to sew. Her kid was lovely, too. Now I’m not trying to be all “speshul” and quirky by naming my sewing machine. I’m not going all “Yeah, I name my things. What’s it to you?” Because everybody does that now, I think. Not the defensive posturing with regards to life choices but the naming of inanimate objects.

And so, ladies and gents, meet my 3rd electric sewing machine, Lorelai 3.0.

Before I tell you how deeply I am in love with her, let me regale you with a story about why I made the purchase. You see, the boyfriend and I were supposed to go on a vacation in Singapore from the 20th to the 23rd. I saved up for shopping money and whatnot but our wonderfully efficient government didn’t put my middle name in my passport.

The night I got a call from the agency telling me that I have to renew my passport for the 2nd time, sleep eluded me. At around 1AM, I got up, watched the latest episode of Hawaii Five-0, and Googled “sewing machines cebu.” That is how I found Cebu Appliance Center and their limited but great Singer selection. After a few emails with someone from the store, I paid for the Singer Talent 3323 via PayPal (using the Singapore money I have saved up) and picked up the unit the next day.

And that is how she began her life as Lorelai 3.0.

She is a home basic type but that’s all I need, really. I only make bags, dresses, and other home decor items anyway. We have had 12 hours worth of productive time together and I can honestly say that she is a breeze to work with.

A few things:

I know I should be more irritated about the passport mishap but in the grand scheme of things, it was a blessing in disguise.

  • Without my Singapore money, I would not have been able to buy a new sewing machine. I’m not into the whole “save up for a tech/gadget” thing that you young people are into.
  • On the 22nd, I had a physical condition that prompted a visit to the doctor and getting prescriptions for antibiotics. And do you know what one of my top 5 fears is? Getting sick in a strange city/country.
  • Sewing for the bazaar is less frantic now because I was able to clear my schedule. Having a new machine is a huge bonus, too.
  • Now I have extra money to buy more cat food for the stray cats outside our apartment.

  1. Funny how things work out. She’s a beauty.

I’m a tad bit jealous, but I’ve been (not so subtly) hinting for a sewing machine for Christmas … my fingers are crossed. ;)

  2. Omg I loved that show! I used to watch it for the mother-daughter antics ;p
Ugh I hate when something is wrong with official papers ( T-T) they always take so long to get done :/ and to have to repeat the process :3

Glad you have a positive outlook! Yeah you’re right getting sick in a foreign country is scary :3
