The thing about having a sewing machine and knowing dress construction is that you buy and hoard pieces of clothing that are too big, too short, too ugly, too tight, or too flashy because you think to yourself that you will be able to refashion them into something wearable, pretty, and fits just right. That’s fine but my procrastination gland is always active. This means that it takes months for me to tackle these refahionable clothing.
So now, I have vowed to deal with at least 1 of those projects every two weeks. Yesterday was a good day as I was able to shorten a pair of ill-shaped sweatpants into cute little shorts. Inspiration also came to finally deal with a super ugly dress I made months ago. No need to post a photo of the dress because it did not speak well for my skills as a sew-er (sewist?). Not that I have reputable skills or anything.
What I did was hack off the b0ttom and made a simple gartered skirt. I’ve been seeing skirts like this at the malls and I figured I’d make my own.

I swear it’s not too short. I also swear that I was not being lame by using the skirt in a winter-y outfit, as shown in the third photo. I was simply exhibiting proper planning skills. The Boy and I plan to live in Baguio for about a year one of these days since we can take our work practically anywhere. Anywhere with good Internet connection, that is.

HEELED

Will post a tutorial on how to sew this simple skirt soon. I have missed writing tutorials.

That’s too pretty! Sigh I really envy your sewing skills. I wish I have the talent, I would have saved a lot of clothes that don’t fit me that well. Do you accept orders for this one? I saw some Multiply stores selling skirts like that but they’re so freaking expensive! I’d like one in black, and some printed ones too.. If you are willing, how much do you think it will cost? Thanks so much Meream! :)
PS: The fourth photo is my favorite! :)
Cute; I adore the lacy trim you put on it!
P.S. Those heart tights: hue has some, American Apparel too, and some other places. :)
They’re pretty easy to make and if I do end up making them, I only charge by the hour and materials. The great thing about these skirts is that I can easily whip one up in one hour, tops. :D Lemme know what you decide. How much do they cost in the multiply stores, anyway? :)
Thanks Rebecca! :)
American Apparel does not ship to my country but I found a store on eBay that carries the stockings. Cannot wait to get them! :)
And then, people start giving you their clothing discards. Before you know it, there are 4 big bags of “to-be-refashioned” clothing stuffed in the back of the closet.
Oh, is that just me?? :)
The skirt looks really good on you.
I knew you’d be able to relate to this post, being the skilled refashionista that you are. :D
I actually know what you mean. The Boy’s mom gives me a lot of clothing to be refashioned. Haha
Very cute!
Thanks! :)
Hey Meream,
I must have missed when you posted your blog on AllWomenStalk because I was looking to see before if you had one! I love the skirt, esp in the bottom two photos over the jeans and with the vest looking shirt and flower necklace. Like Rebecca said I love the lace trim as well. You have a great blog here, its so cute. I dont sew much but I love scrapbooking. Have a great weekend. :)
Multiply stores sell them for 900-1200php x_x
How much will be the rough estimate if I ask you to make me a couple? Thanks Meream! You really are awesome! :)
P900 to P1200? That’s just silly. I can seriously make one for like 200 to 250 only. Haha.
You look really pretty and I love the refashion. My favorite is number 4 photo :) is closer to my style :)
