Do you see that tiny rocking chair trinket container? Cute as a button but has no purpose whatsoever. But I bought it because, well, it IS cute as a button.
Then there is the fact that I never picture a home without a rocking chair. Given the size of our current apartment, getting one would be impossible. This is why I always try to sit at the rocking chair at The Boy’s parents’ home whenever we visit. It also explains my general disappointment when I was told that it would have been unreasonable to buy an authentic Filipino rocking chair in Baguio when we vacationed there last Christmas.
I also bought it because it looks like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting.
But I never realized that until I admired the pages of this newly acquired book:

With paintings evoking the very definition of whimsy, warmth, home, and everyday beauty, Normal Rockwell is definitely one of my favorite artists. I know that his subjects were purely American but I believe that home and innocence are universal concepts.

And do you see that desk Santa is using? I want to buy one just like it. Seriously.

I actually have the pleasure of knowing some of Rockwell’s subjects….and they are quite a slice of Americana!
Not to mention the humor in most of his Saturday Evening Post works, too. My dad and I are also huge N. Rockwell fans.
Really? Wow. They must have great stories about the painter. :D
You are one of the few locals I know who know him! Haha
I’m such a sucker for Rockwell, though I wouldn’t necessarily have the art around my apartment hanging up, when I look at it (especially around the holidays) it gives such a feeling of nostalgia, really cute
