b-b-b-b-beautiful blogger

I’d blush if I could.

Thanks to Denise and Gene for this award. You girls rock.

Here are the rules:

1. Thank & link the person that gave you the award.

2. Pass this award onto 15 bloggers you’ve recently discovered and think are fantastic.

3. Contact said blogs and let them know they’ve won.

4. State 7 things about yourself.

So here are 15 blogs that I have recently discovered and I think are fantastic:

The Vixen’s LairLeah | Kaleidoscopic Refrains | My Thrifting Adventures | Carrie Lewis | Hi Fashion | Waiting for The Light to Change | If You Did, You Should | Sweet Bee Buzzings | My Closet Life | The Embellished Life | Mama’s A Rolling Stone | Badly Drawn Doll | Bridges on the Body | Violet LeBeaux

Some of these bloggers have already received the award but I don’t think there is a rule against receiving this award more than once.

So let’s move on to the 4th bit. Because I’m silly, I have decided to post seven B stuff about me. B for beautiful blogger, right?

1. Books Love them. Can’t live without them. Love to smell them.

2. Boat Pose I have been working hard on getting my flat(ter) tummy back. This pose kicks my ass seven ways from Sunday but I will not give up.

3. Bent The Natalie Imbruglia song. I sang this for an English class back in college. It was embarrassing to say the least. I don’t think I’d live that down ever again. I don’t like singing in public unless it’s karaoke night and everyone I’m with is drunk.

4. Black Ink Pen I never like using blue ink pens. Black just looks better.

5. Boot-ay I’m very proud of my butt. When I lost a lot of weight, I was sad that my behind vanished. Thankfully, I got heavier again.

6. Beer Have not had a sip in more than 2 years. WOW. This is why I seldom go out to watering holes these days. I get bored easily without alcohol in my body and I refuse to drink for health reasons. There is wine but the taste makes me go blech.

7.  Bends, The Favorite Radiohead album next to OK Computer. You can tell that I have just about run out of B Meream stuff to write about. But seriously, The Bends is all kinds of awesome.

WANT

Like I said, cute things will be the death of my savings account, especially if they are related to Alice in Wonderland.

You’ll read more on just how much I want these here.

a gazillion fake polaroids

A belated Valentine’s Day gift from the boyfriend. This called for a bit of reorganization in our study areas.

Chose my current favorites. Since I have a gazillion photos, I'll do a rotation display system until I figure out how to post them all. I'm thinking bedroom wall...

My cutesy wall in contrast to the boyfriend's morbid-bloody art collection.

Speaking of Valentine’s Day gifts, here is a lovely reader’s version of the framed heart skeleton key thingy that I made for the boyfriend a few weeks back:

This was sent by CarolAnn. She and her husband have been married for 21 years so she used 21 keys. The key sets on the top portion represent their kids while the charms below the heart are for their cats  and dogs. So so sweet.

Thanks CarolAnn!

beauty

Some people, if they were to be morbidly philosophical, get overwhelmed by the fact that the world is full of so much evil. Some, on a more positive note, will say that the world is full of the strangest but beautiful things. I, on the other hand, always get overwhelmed thinking that there are so many creative people in the world that I have met, want to meet, or might never get a chance to meet.

I consider myself lucky for having crossed paths with two wonderfully talented photographers, Hannah and Mike. Some people say that the boyfriend and I are a bit of an artsy couple but Hannah and Mike deserve that description better.

The following photos were taken by Hannah:

I wish people who own impressive cameras will take notes from this girl. Photos that are horrifically edited to the point that a person’s skin end up looking like a 3D rendition of an animated character are just, well, horrific. If you are a shutterbug and you happen to stumble upon this post, do yourself a favor and learn from Hannah (and Mike) on how to take photos and post-process properly. Thank you very much.

- end of mini rant –

Anyway, aside from photography, Mike is also into doodles/illustration/graphic art. This awesome photo manipulation is his. Incredibly creative partnership, I say.

Oh yeah, fascinators made by yours truly.

Please do not use these photos without contacting either Hannah  or Mike (inactivista@gmail.com) first. Thanks.

kitsch

It may be a big hassle to be at the mall minutes before it opens and to actually wait for the guards to let people in but it sure has its advantages.

My favorite: I get to sit at my favorite corner at National Bookstore without people gawking or asking me to move.

Before having lunch with a girl friend several days ago, I spent a good hour browsing through the Japanese craft magazines at the store. Thankfully, they were on a messy state. I did not feel too bad about checking the covers, leaving a bit of a mess myself.

My favorite was this kitschy-country painting magazine. There were step-by-step instructions and super cute projects.

I had a hard time stopping myself from buying it. My National Bookstore rewards points were enough for three magazines but I left the store with only the following:

A magazine on how to sew different kinds of hats. I had to buy it because I’d been wanting to sew a cloche hat for the longest time. The other is a jewelry-making magazine. A perfect source for wonderful color combinations that just work.

I did not buy the painting magazine because I can always hound the boyfriend for painting tutorials.

Oh, just FYI, I ended up organizing the magazines before I paid for the ones I chose. In fact, I left the shelves in a shape way better than when I found them. National Bookstore MUST give me a free book for this good deed.

princess – doll

A Sunday is a good day to receive awards. So I say.

Here are two given to me by two lovely bloggers, Miss Neira and Krissy.  THANK YOU!

From Miss Neira – Princess

Name an author you love : Alice Hoffman

If applicable, name an author who highlights: (calling the person who started this award, please clarify what this means. some words may have been lost in the virtual awarding process.) Or is this a trivia question? An author who is also a hairstylist? I’ll get back to you on that.

Books you love: All kinds. I’m a bookwh*re. From detective stories to horror stories to sappy chick lit to children’s books to the classics (some) to science fiction to graphic novels.

Something that always excites you: Thrift shopping. Sewing. Making jewelry. Drawing stuff I want to sew. Smelling the pages of a book.

And this: perfectly balanced application of liquid eyeliner (am I the only one who finds this difficult?).

Something you hate: Salespeople who think I’m a high school girl and therefore cannot afford their merchandise.

From Krissy - YOU’RE A DOLL

The rules are:
1. Remember to link back to the person who awarded you!

2. Select 5 more bloggers that you think are dolls and link them at the bottom.

3. Tell about a character from a book/ movie/ drama that you like most.

4. Post the picture and title on your blog  permanently if you like.

This is tricky. Apart from the favorite author question, naming ONLY ONE character I like is difficult. If given the chance, I’d probably come up with an endless list. It will include Dagny Taggart (Atlas Shrugged), Peter Decker (Faye Kellerman novels), Jo March (Little Women), Rabbit (The Velveteen Rabbit), Odd Thomas (The Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz), the Gilmore Girls, Jon Snow (A Song of Ice and Fire), Christopher Snow (Moonlight Bay Series by Dean Koontz), Satsuki Kusakabe (My Neighbor Totoro), Sophie (Howl’s Moving Castle), Buffy, Chandler Bing, Lucy Honeychurch (A Room with A View), and so many others.

But since I have to choose one, I’ll have to go with the strongest girl in the world, Pippi Longstocking. Protector of the oppressed, thing-finder, non-conformist, wonderful gifter, and all-around fun girl. And fashion-forward, too!

Illustration by the super talented Sarah Mensinga

And who do I think are dolls and princesses?

These three ladies: Chin, Vet, Line.

And Cel (absent).

And Ley (Yes, Ley, you’re a princess and a doll. Do not protest.)
